Microwave ovens have been ubiquitous in kitchens since the 1980s, but more recently intrepid tinkerers have been taking them apart to harvest them for parts for their own projects. There are a veritable gold mine of parts for DIY home inventors here, from high powered heavy duty components that can be used to make a Tesla coil, to basic durable parts for all manner of Arduino hobby projects or Raspberry Pi home automation.
